Introduction

This page is about Dylan Dog, a comic which has turned ver y popular,
in the last years.
It was created in 1986 by the malefic mind of Tiziano Sclavi, in a comic publishing house
which had always privileged adventure comics. With Martin Mystère
they chose new ways privileging new subjects. Dylan Dog has been the natural evolution of
Dellamorte Dellamore, a character of a Sclavi's romance, from which a famous
motion picture has been made.
Dylan is the detective of nightmares: his business is horror in a town
as strange as London.
There are a lot of things that make Dylan Dog a really different comic.
The first thing that you can see is the irony that fills the stories and
which is personified by his secretary and friend: Groucho, who is identical
to the awesome Groucho Marx. Humor can be found everywhere in the stories,
Dylan himself admits that he would have gone mad without it.
The social aspect: Dylan is enough social, his thoughts are quite often on
morality and social problems, never political. So, even if we can question
his morality (he changes too often his partner), the character has
lots of female fans. About "social commitment" we can only agree with him when he
condemns drugs, Èlite thinking, hypocrites, censure by the
ignorant and the absence
of respect toward the animal kingdom.
Dylan Dog has increased very much his sellings, and today the comic is among the
most read strips in Italy. This is very unusual since the comic is very young.
